The Big Island was my first stop on this Hawaii trip. This island being less touristy was my main reason for excitement. Â I found a beautiful four-story house through Air Bnb, isolated in the jungle. I was absolutely in heaven waking up every morning to the sound of tropical rain and palms trees tapping on my balcony’s window.
Near our house lives the Kīlauea Volcano which is one of the most active on Earth standing 4200 ft tall! In 1990 it destroyed and partly buried most of the town Kalapana. Along with Kalapana was the nearby town of Kaimū and Kaimū bay which now both lay under more the 50 ft of lava.
After visiting the Kaimū Black Sand Beach we also did some other rather risky scenic hikes.
The Big Island was full of adventurous hikes, amazing locals, and breath-taking scenery. I’m so happy that this was my first stop my first time to Hawaii.
