Makena (Big Beach) is my go-to beach when I visit Maui. It’s located on the south end which is near my hotel I usually stay at. Makena is big and never crowded (when I visit in their winters anyway). It has a very peaceful vibe about it and is breathtakingly beautiful. On one side you have the ocean, so earthy blue and crystal clear. On the other side you have fields and fields of green trees and peeking out in the back is a straight shot of a huge volcano.
My favorite part about Makena is the black lava outcroppings coming out of the water. The sound of the waves crashing against them soothe my soul.

The colour of the sea is turquoise, quite different from those beaches I’ve been to. Beautiful! I can feel the tranquility and peace. 😊
Spectacular photos. We have some beautiful beaches here in Michigan, but alas none with black lava outcroppings. 🙂 And yes I think the music of a flamenco guitar would suit you.

That’s amazing! What is your favorite beach in Michigan?
That’s a tough call. But, there are some spectacular, high sand dunes along the windward side of Lake Michigan. The highest of these is at Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat’l Lakeshore (500 feet high), but I like the beach at Warren Dunes park along southern Lake Michigan. Sorry, I have no photos which really do it justice.
Love the colors and contrast. Appears to be s beautiful remote location with a pristine look.

Thanks Rob! It really is an amazing location
Classic Carmen thank you for following the All-in blog. I visited Maui in 2008. I was blown away with Kapalua Beach. It almost seemed unreal. Any way take care and happy reading.
