El Astillero is a quiet, uncharted fishing village near Popoyo. You may have driven by Astillero many times without even noticing it, like myself. As I pulled over to refill on gas one day, I looked across the street and noticed a beautiful beach area where the sand was full of pangas. Little did I know this was one of the best fishing ports in Nicaragua.
The locals in Astillero Have thrived on fishing for generations with it being their main source of income. Of these fish caught daily include Yellow Fin Tuna, Sailfish, Mackerel, Mahi Maui, and Roosterfish. ( I had never heard of Roosterfish either til I tried some locally and it was delicious!) This really is a dream spot for tourists who have a fishing hobby. Fishing isn’t the only great wonder of Astillero either. Incase you didn’t know, some of the world’s BEST surf is in Nicaragua. Some unique waves are located just north of Astillero and accessible by boat only. The pangas take surfers out daily to catch these hallow waves.

Love how the pink boats had a women’s symbol!

I found so much background on this quiet beach. With such rich qualities. As Nicaragua is growing, I know El Astillero will soon be populated and get all the attention is deserves.

Great colors and lucky you were to find the pink boat for a sharp contrast with the blues. Needless to say, you look great in pink, too. 🙂
