Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Before discovering Palma de Mallorca I thought Spain’s only island was Ibiza, I know right? pretty embarrassed about that. I knew I wanted to explore somewhere different from my recent beach travels in Central America so I started looking into Europe. When I found Palma I was blown away by the beautiful landmarks, Cathedrals and their gorgeous beach side. We decided to enjoy the best of both worlds and book half of our stay in the city and half outside the city along the coast. I chose Nakar Hotel for my city stay which was not only luxurious but had the perfect location and not to mention a roof top pool with the best city view! I’m thankful jetlag allowed me to have the chance to see the sunrise every morning at breakfast as well.

From Nakar’s great location we walked pretty much everywhere. I truley adore how eco friendly it was here. Mostly people walked or rode scooters and bikes. Once a week the hotel would turn off the air and have you open the windows which was nice and fresh with it being mid October. Staying in the city centre my days were FILLED with activites. With the amount of museams, art, and history I’m not even sure if its possible to see everything in just four days, but a girl can try.

In Mallorca my days started with fresh, warm espresso shots and always led to crisp glasses of wine followed by more espresso. The local Spanish wine is beyond devouring.

The Bellver Castle was remarkable! Built for kings in the 17th century it was one of the few circular castles in Europe.

So many great museums, restaurants, and not to mention luxury shopping the city centre of Palma had to offer but it was time to venture off to Playa de Canyamel, a coastal village on the east side of Mallorca. We booked a few nights at Melbeach which is a private, beachfront adult only hotel. The staff at Melbeach were extremely nice and the spa was top notch.

Most of our Spanish breakfasts included yogurts, fresh juices, assorted breads, fruits and LOTS of Nutella.

An easy 20 mile hike up the mountains led you to a Cuevas de Arta which were these ginormous ancient caves said to have dated as early as the 12th century!! They were so neat! Some of the rooms contained natural crystal and topaz, it was unreal.

I wanted to drown myself in all of the Spanish Sangria. It was really THAT good. Naturally sweet and strong just how I like it. The sunsets were really a site to see here in Canyamel.

Spain is a wonderful country full of great people. If you ever have travel plans to visit Spain, put Palma de Mallorca on your detour as well.
