After nearly a year living in LA I’m finally getting around to finding some real hidden gems. Better late than never right? Just the other day my friend asked if I have visited The Last Bookstore yet since I live downtown. She described the bookstore as an incredible experience so I HAD to go explore. Luckily for me The Last Bookstore is just a 15 minute walk from my building so I grabbed some Starbucks and was on my way.
Walking in, I was blown away by the size of the store! The left room by the entrance was filled with difference biographies (I especially have my eyes on a $500 Versailles book that is signed). Of course the more expensive book caught my eye lol. There was a live Spanish band performing and just about every type of  genre you could think of filled the shelves as well as records too. After getting lost downstairs I thought I had seen half of the store and decided to make my way up.
Upstairs they have an abundance of creative book displays that make you feel like you are in a mystical world. I almost had Harry Potter vibes. Aside from the out-of-this-world displays they also had a really interesting Horror section which is nice considering Barns & Nobles doesn’t. Hopefully I’m not the only weirdo who’s into that genre lol. Upstairs they also had small shops and art work on display.
After searching around three hours and limiting myself to only one book, I purchased Buddhism Without Beliefs and am super stoked to dive into it. The Last Bookstore is truly iconic. The name really speaks to me in the sense that it’s probably the last bookstore I will ever visit because I mean who else can honestly compete with them? In this era the internet has taken over and a lot of people forget how important and fun reading really is. (Like the whole audio book for example).  This bookstore is a fresh escape from reality and a nice reminder that authentic books are still out there waiting to be opened by you. PS. Remember to always donate your books once you’re done for good with them. Hopefully my favorite author has a meet and greet here in the future. Til then I’ll be back regularly.
Thanks for reading!!
